We got an interesting email/ call to action this morning and wanted to share. Back in our old stomping grounds of Venice Beach, there's the most interesting little grocery store called Rawsome. It's members-only (you have to be referred in), and if you didn't know it was there, the place would just look like a parking lot walled off with tin siding ... kind of like those hip Hollywood clubs with no sign and an entrance in the back alley. Why so privy ... it's just an organic food coOp, right?? Read below :
Subject: RAWESOME RAIDED AGAIN, MILK SEIZED
"DEAR RAWESOME MEMBERS,
THE GOVERNMENT CONTINUES ITS WAR ON RAW MILK. RAWESOME CLUB WAS RAIDED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT TODAY. ALL RAW MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS WERE SEIZED. RAWESOME MANAGER, JAMES STEWART, WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY CHARGES FOR HAVING RAW MILK AND RAW MILK PRODUCTS ON THE CLUB’S PREMISES FOR ITS MEMBERS. HIS BAIL IS SET AT $123,000.00 AND HE IS SET TO BE ARRAIGNED TOMORROW, 8/4/11, AT 8:30 AM AT THE CLARA SHORTLIDGE FOLTZ CRIMINAL JUSTICE CENTER: 210 WEST TEMPLE STREET, DIVISION 30."
... sounds like nonsense? It is, but let me explain just a little of the back story. In the store you will see milk marked "pasteurized" or "ultra pasteurized" ... they do this same thing with juice. This is basically where they take the natural milk or fruit juice and heat it up just below the boiling temperature for a period of time to sterilize it ... (this also makes it last longer which is good and more profitable for the producers) but a lot of people don't want their milk and fresh juice sterile, they want it alive and packed with all the vitamins, nutrients, and healthy bacteria that nature intended. But raw milk is illegal per the FDA. Even between consenting adults ... (if you can't see the raid videos below in your email, go to the blog ; )
In a world where Red number 3, Tartrate Ester of Monoglyceride, and sodium stearoyl lactylate are freely fed to our loved ones... (many of these additives and modifications can be thanked for the spread of cancer, depression, premature aging, and a general lack of Mmmph for life) why can't we have raw milk or yogurt if we want? If it's so dangerous, they could even put an age limit on it like they do with cigarettes, bullets, and booze. But NooooOOoo ... they've gotta call in the artillery.
Well, some good folks in Venice Beach found a little solution to provide farm fresh produce to the people who want it. The FDA controls public markets ... but what if somebody started a private raw food market where only members (who want raw food and have agreed to any chances that may be taking) can sign up, pay a nominal membership fee and enjoy their black market white cheddar ?? The FDA has no jurisdiction in a members only private food club .. or do they??
James, the manager of Rawsome Food Club, is a sweet man with intentions only to provide healthy food to keep people happy and alive .. and he's at this moment sitting in a cell .. and no doubt refusing whatever bowl a gruel they slide into his cage.
Hang in there James ...

It is just unbelievable that this is what goes on and our taxes pay for us to have no control over our food - Same thing happens to those of us on the farm. If the government get's wind that we offer any raw products then they can close my farm down and take my animals and keep my in court long enough to lose everything... Really!!! Land of the Free - my eye!
ReplyDeleteThank you larkspur ... couldn't have asked for a better first comment. Don't lose that fire, it's as American as apple pie ...(with a dollop of sweet, raw cream ... the way our founding fathers had it : )
ReplyDeleteThis is just unbelievable! Shocking absolutely shocking! This is so ridiculous. I'm trying to wrap my mind around how this makes sense to anyone!
ReplyDeleteHang in there right thinking people! Hopefully the law has some common sense.
It's BS, corporations run our government, we the people, do not. There are so many things that are illegal because of corporate puppet masters pulling the strings in Washington.
ReplyDeleteI can actually get unpasteurized milk and chocolate milk where I buy local beef. I didn't realize it was a federal offense. :(
I've never killed, raped, or stolen anything, but I'm a criminal.
:( and to think that people are starving all over the world.... and in america time is spent taking away healthy foods from people who pay good money to take care you their body.... that's pretty F'd.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that this post inspired quite a few tears and a tangled mess of unpleasant emotions... and it took some time to process it. you guys are only a few hours away. I buy raw milk for my little one who prefers it to all others... I had no idea it was as bad as this so close to home.
ReplyDeleteYou are courageous to post this. Laws like this must continue to be broken until the light shining down on the burden of their absurdity finally breaks their little knees. It seems like every just cause was illegal at one point... It was brave freedom-fighters underground, on the front line or on the picket line, incognito or in your face... their tireless efforts, their integrity defended true justice and set a lot of people free... including some of the people who would take it away again now.
The fire is burning, and you can count me in.
Thank you.
